Where The Buffalo Roam

24 x 18 watercolor "Buffalo Plains" This was fun and challenging to create. Oklahoma is known for it's massive prairie lands, soft rolling hills, buffalo herds, and a big blue sky- all are great things. The challenge was to create that vastness with watered color on paper. And I ended up with a painting that I get pulled into feeling like I am part of the vastness and yet, smaller than anything on the paper, and that, for me, was all I wanted

6x8 watercolor "Cowbird No. 3" - This triptych series depicts the humble Aves, most referred to as Cowbird. Though considered to be quite dull and average, these little fellows keep with the prairies of Oklahoma and hang out with the buffalo and wildlife of the plains.

11x14 watercolor - "Memory Road" is an actual road I used to frequent out south of Tulsa. It's a memory, that carries so many emotions but the main one is contentedness. The Okayness to be one with nature and space and time. To breath is fresh wind that held hints of honeysuckle and soak up the warm sun of early summer - yeah, it's a great memory.

11x14 watercolor - "Echoes of the past" That still ring loud on the Oklahoma Plains. The buffalo are found around Pawhuska, and sometimes along highway 16, but they aren't the same as they used to be. They seem more like echoes than real and it makes me wonder about the stories their ancestors saw.

6x8 watercolor "Cowbird No. 2" - This triptych series depicts the humble Aves, most referred to as Cowbird. Though considered to be quite dull and average, these little fellows keep with the prairies of Oklahoma and hang out with the buffalo and wildlife of the plains.

4x6 watercolor "Up on the hill" And far away you will find a sunny spot that overlooks Pawhuska and it's rolling hills of greens. yellows, and greys. It's peaceful, beautiful, vast, and raw - the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the view with the animals that stop by.

6x8 watercolor - "Buffalo grass No. 2." This two series collection depicting buffalo grass was to approach it from a simple, minimalistic way. It felt more clean, simple, yet more expressive in itself rather than as a collective. Even though this series has the least amount of color and subject matter, it is one of my favorites.

4x6 watercolor. "Reflections" Have you ever stared at the Arkansas River by Turkey mountain and watched the sky in the water? If you haven't you should. And if you wont go, here's my interpretation of it for you to enjoy.

6x8 watercolor "Cowbird No. 1" - This triptych series depicts the humble Aves, most referred to as Cowbird. Though considered to be quite dull and average, these little fellows keep with the prairies of Oklahoma and hang out with the buffalo and wildlife of the plains.

11 x 14 watercolor "The Loner" The sun began to drift down from the sky, casting warm long color along the river. There stood a lone buffalo, facing the sun. I wondered if he saw the beauty of that moment or if he was lost in the memory of what he has witnessed through the years.

4x6 watercolor "Over the hill and 5 more miles" I lived in the country south of Tulsa for 10 years and though there isn't a road like this out there, but it reminds me of the roads we would drive following the most random directions.
